News And Bulletins
Heartworm Season Spring has arrived and that means the mosquitoes are soon to follow. It is important to protect your dog from the deadly heartworm parasite. Please book an appointment as soon as possible to arrange for a heartworm test and vaccine.
Christmas Safety The holiday season is upon us, this is a wonderful time of year to share with your family and pets. However, with it come some dangers you should take into thought. Christmas plants are very beautiful to have in your house, but there are ones that can be toxic to dogs and cats such as Poinsettias, Mistletoe and Amaryllis. Chocolate is another toxin you should keep away from your pets. Although dogs think it's very yummy, it can harm your pet if ingested. You should keep both plants and chocolates in a place where your pets cannot get to them. Christmas trees pose a variety of dangers to pets as well, use plastic ornaments instead of glass ones to ensure they will not shatter if broken. Also the use plastic hooks or ribbon when hanging the ornaments is recommended. Avoid tinsel; this is a big choking hazard for pets if swallowed. Cats are especially attracted to it when it dangles from the tree. All of us at Kingsdale Animal Hospital would like to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday.
Hallowe'en Safety Hallowe'en can be a fun time for family and pets. However, please be Hallowe'en safe! All treats need to be kept out of reach of pets. It is very tempting for dogs to get into Hallowe'en candy and this can have serious consequences. Make sure any pet costumes are properly fitting and are not too tight. Do not leave your pet unattended while wearing a costume, they may become entangled in the costume or try to ingest some of it! Finally, it's best to keep your cats indoors during Hallowe'en, so they do not become the subject of any Hallowe'en tricks or pranks.
Coyote Presence in King - August 2011 It is not uncommon for King Township to have a Coyote presence. However, this is a reminder that they are out there and have been spotted in town in King City recently. In the last 2 weeks, four cats have gone missing, with two confirmed dead in the Banner Lane and Warren Road area - this area does not even back onto the ravine. Please keep your cats indoors at night, and make sure your dogs and cats are supervised if they need to go out after dark.
Beware of the Heat Heatstroke is a risk for all dogs during the warmer months. Remember to keep your dog in a cool or shaded area with plenty of fresh water. Never leave a dog inside a parked car even for a short period of time - even with the windows open this situation can be deadly. Do not exercise your dogs on the very hot and humid days. Save their walks for the cooler hours of the mornings or evenings.
Run for Southlake Several members of Kingsdale Animal Hospital participated in the 2011 Run for Southlake. Stephanie Brown and Melissa Fenton completed the 5 km walk. Dr. Boultbee and Angie Thurston completed the half-maraton (21 km) run.
